Strong, Permanent Dental Implants in Jupiter, FL

April 27, 2015

Did you have the unfortunate luck of losing a tooth? If you answered “yes,” then you are not alone. Thousands of Americans lose teeth every single year due to a number of factors, including tooth decay, facial trauma, and oral injuries. The loss of a tooth can be a frustrating and painful experience, and it can make the individual became self-conscious about image. Tooth loss can also lead to potential long-term issues if not addressed as soon as possible. Juno Beach Smiles, located near Jupiter, FL, offers a permanent solution to this situation in the form of dental implants.

Reliable, Professional Care

166637352The loss of a tooth is not only painful; it can lead to future oral problems. Your jawbone requires stimulation from all of your teeth, which it receives from the contacts your teeth create throughout the day (chewing, touching each other, etc.). Without stimulation, the jaw begins to deteriorate, losing mass, height, and width. This is why our talented doctors, professionals with years of experience, and our expert team of practitioners offer dental implants. These implants permanently replace your missing tooth and restore function and form to your mouth.

Restore Function to Your Mouth

When you arrive at our state-of-the-art offices, we will examine your mouth and take impressions of your problem area. Afterward, we will plan your treatment, making sure you receive the best possible care. We will surgically insert a biocompatible titanium post in your jaw. You will undergo a healing period, as your jaw naturally grows over and accepts the post and your gums heal. When your healing is complete, we will have you return to our office. We will bond a strong tooth replacement to the post, cementing it within the mouth. Then, after the bonding is complete, you can walk out of our building with a complete, luminous smile.

Get the Treatment You Deserve

Don’t suffer from the loss of a tooth any longer. Contact our office today and schedule a consultation with our phenomenal team. Our office happily accepts those who live in Jupiter, FL, Juno Beach, North Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Tequesta, and the surrounding communities.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are actually artificial tooth roots used to anchor a replacement tooth, such as a dental crown or denture.

Four Easy Steps to Successful Dental Implants Placement

  • Step 1: First, Keuning or Dr. Riley will gently place the implant into your jaw.
  • Step 2: A healing period of about three months is needed for the implant to fully fuse with your jawbone. In the meantime, a temporary crown or denture will cover the implant.
  • Step 3: Next, Keuning or Dr. Riley will place an abutment, from which your new restoration will be attached to the dental implant. Sometimes this step can be skipped if your implant already has the extension piece attached.
  • Step 4: Finally, a replacement tooth (crown or denture) will be attached to your dental implant for natural-looking tooth replacement. Up to four dental implants can be used to support an entire upper or lower denture.

What Advantages Do Dental Implants Offer?

Dental implants offer several advantages over other tooth replacement options including:

  • Implants are indistinguishable from natural teeth
  • Implants are placed without sacrificing the health of surrounding teeth
  • Implants better preserve healthy bone, whereas dental bridges and dentures allow the bone to deteriorate, causing premature aging
  • Implants can be cared for just like natural teeth, eliminating the need for extra daily maintenance
  • Implants won’t decay, and can last a lifetime with proper care

Extracting Dental Care Myths

October 10, 2014

78188806Below are three of the most common dental care myths. If you’re clueless about your dental health, inform yourself and then make an appointment with Dr. Keuning and Dr. Riley at Juno Beach Smiles. The dentists at Juno Beach Smiles want to partner with you to create your healthiest possible smile. Dr. Keuning and Dr. Riley proudly serve patients throughout Juno Beach, FL, Palm Beach Gardens, Tequesta, North Palm Beach and surrounding communities.
Top 3 Dental Care Myths:

  1. Sugar Causes Cavities– Cavities are actually caused by acid producing bacteria that feed off of excess sugars deposited in the mouth. Yet any carbohydrate can be used as fuel for these bacteria. The waste they produce after digesting carbohydrates is the acid that erodes your enamel and causes tooth decay. That means that chips and bread can be just as harmful as candy and soda. Xylitol, a sugar substitute found in sugar free candy and gum, has actually been found to reduce the chances of developing cavities.
  2. Your Chances Of Getting Cavities Decrease As You Get Older– The opposite is actually true. The older you get the more actively you need to protect your teeth from cavities. Fluoride in tap water has actually caused the incidence of childhood cavities to decrease in recent years. On the other hand, as we age, the side effects of certain medications and medical conditions like dry mouth can increase the likely hood of developing cavities.
  3. If You Don’t Feel Any Pain Then Your Teeth Are Healthy– Although you may feel no pain or discomfort, you could still have dental problems that require immediate attention. Your dentist can use new x-ray technology to detect cavities before they become acute enough to cause pain. As with any medical concern, the earlier the problem is found, the more treatment options are available.

Cosmetic Dentistry That Fits Your Life

If your smile is flawed by cracks, chips, deep stains, or alignment problems, you may feel less inclined to share it with the world. Fortunately, there is a way to correct these common problems without extensive dental work. Porcelain veneers can be applied to the front surfaces of your teeth, masking imperfections and creating the appearance of a radiant smile. These custom-crafted sheaths of fine dental porcelain even reflect light in the same way that your enamel does, so you’re left with a smile free of blemishes that still looks completely natural.

For some of our patients, stained and dull-colored teeth are the primary problem they face on a daily basis. If your teeth are dingy and discolored, you’re far less likely to reveal your smile to classmates, professors, and even your friends. Allow our team to help with professional teeth whitening. In less time than ever before, you can eliminate stains from deep within the enamel, promoting a brilliantly white smile that lasts.

If missing teeth are harming your smile and your lifestyle, we invite you to ask us about dental implants. These lifelike, sturdy replacement teeth are considered the preferred alternative to removable prosthetics like dentures and bridges. We’re always happy to work with you to formulate a customized treatment plan to fulfill your individual needs.

Your Most Beautiful Smile Yet

Whether you simply need the extra smile boost afforded by professional teeth whitening or you’d like to explore the possibilities of a service like porcelain veneers or dental implants, we’re here to help. Make this back to school season count with a wide array of customized cosmetic dentistry solutions, and discover the difference a beautiful new smile can make in your life. The History of Dental Implants

July 16, 2013

In dental implants, we talked about the history of teeth whitening. Today, we’d like to focus on another popular service—dental implants.

As with whitening, people have always been looking for a way to replace missing teeth. Scientists have found evidence that the Mayans implanted tooth-shaped shells into the jaw 1,300 years ago to replace missing teeth. Going back even further, the Romans may have used cast-iron, while the Egyptians used gold wires. Other materials that have been used throughout history include rubber, ivory, copper, semi-precious stones, and oxen bone.

And then there are dental implants as we now know them. These date from around 1965. Scientist Per-Ingvar Brånemark discovered that titanium would fuse with bone tissue, leading eventually to the placement of the first dental implant in a human skull.

Why are modern-day dental implants so effective? Because they mimic nature’s design, with a crown on top and a titanium root underneath to act as a prosthetic root. What’s more, they’re versatile enough to replace a single tooth or a full row of teeth.

Not every patient is a candidate for dental implants, though. To find out if dental implants might be right for you, call Juno Beach Restorative & Aesthetic Dentistry for a consultation. During your visit with us, Dr. Greg Riley and Dr. Duane Keuning will help you decide if dental implants will help you meet your needs, or if another service might be better.

We’re proud to provide cosmetic and restorative care to Juno Beach, North Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, and Tequesta.

Will It Ever Be Possible to Regrow Missing Teeth?

March 27, 2013

dental implantsRight now, the best way for a patient to replace one or more missing teeth is with dental implants. That’s because dental implants are structured in a way that’s similar to teeth. On top is the crown, which replaces the missing tooth. Below is the metal implant that acts like a prosthetic root. When inserted into the jaw, the implant will stimulate the growth of new bone tissue in the jaw, creating a strong, stable foundation and creating results that feel natural.

As effective as this option is, though, it may one day be possible for dentists like Dr. Duane Keuning and Dr. Greg Riley to help patients re-grow what they’ve lost. In March, Science World Report published an article reporting that doctors and researchers had found a way to use stem cells to grow a new tooth where one had been lost. The process involves taking a sample of gum tissue, isolating particular cells, and transplanting them back to the jaw.

You won’t be seeing dentists offer this as a service any time soon, but it could be that one day bioengineered teeth will replace dental implants.

Until then, talk to our team at Juno Beach Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry about how dental implants can help. Not every patient is a good candidate for the procedure, but many are. What’s more dental implants are versatile; they can be used to replace a single tooth, a few teeth, or even a full row of teeth. During a consultation visit with Dr. Keuning or Dr. Riley, we can help you understand your needs and your treatment options. We can also put together a personalized plan that will help you address those options.

Restore Your Smile with Dental Implants

October 16, 2012

In our last post we talked about how missing teeth can change your smile. We mentioned that just one gap can result in misalignment, impaired functionality, and bone loss. But, if you have one or more missing teeth, there is hope. With a revolutionary solution like dental implants from our Juno Beach dental office, you can enjoy a smile that looks beautiful and feels completely natural again.

How Do Dental Implants Work?

As we explained last time, tooth roots have an important function. Besides anchoring your tooth to your jaw, they stimulate the growth of new bone tissue, keeping your jaw healthy and strong. When a root goes missing, though, the health of your jaw will suffer and further tooth loss may result.

Dental implants can help you avoid this. That’s because dental implants don’t just replace your missing tooth, they also replace your missing root. Using a prosthetic root made of titanium they can restore that tooth/root combination you lost when you lost your tooth.

Here’s what you can expect from a dental implant procedure. In the first phase, your titanium tooth root will be placed. How many implants you need will depend on your situation. If you’re just replacing one tooth, you’ll just need one implant. But if you’re having implant-retained dentures put in, you’ll need multiple roots to support your new smile.

The second stage involves the attachment of your new tooth (or teeth). This happens after your implant(s) and your jaw have had time to fuse. When there’s a strong enough foundation in place, your Juno Beach doctor will attach your teeth and your procedure will be finished. Afterwards, you can look forward to having a smile that functions just like a natural smile, with results that could last for the rest of your life.

Do you want to learn more about dental implants? Find out exactly what your options are by calling Juno Beach Restorative & Aesthetic Dentistry. During a consultation appointment, Dr. Duane Keuning or Dr. Greg Riley would be happy to help you put a treatment plan together.

Our Juno Beach office serves patients from North Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, Tequesta, and beyond.

Why Is Replacing Missing Teeth So Important?

October 2, 2012

Missing teeth aren’t just a cosmetic issue. Gaps in your smile can also have a powerful impact on your oral health by changing your smile’s alignment, impairing functionality, and contributing to bone loss in the jaw.

In part, this is because a gap in your smile increases the workload on your remaining teeth. The extra pressure exerted on them when you chew causes them to shift out of alignment, creating spaces and making them vulnerable to food impaction and decay.

Another reason for the change in your smile is the loss of your tooth root. Tooth toots stimulate your jawbone to produce new bone tissue, keeping your jaw healthy. When a root is missing, there’s nothing there to stimulate the growth of new bone, causing you to lose bone instead. What’s more, that weakness will spread over time instead of staying localized, putting nearby teeth at risk. After four to eight years, you may have lost as many as five more teeth, all because of just one gap.

Tooth Replacement Options from Juno Beach Restorative & Aesthetic Dentistry

At our Juno Beach dental office, we have restorative options that can help. One of the most effective, which we’ll spend more time on in our next post, is dental implants. Another service, like crown & bridgework or full-mouth reconstruction, can also aid in restoring functionality and preventing teeth from shifting out of place.

Do you have missing teeth? Dr. Greg Riley and Dr. Duane Keuning of Juno Beach Restorative & Aesthetic Dentistry would be happy to advise you of your options. Call our Juno Beach dental office today to schedule your appointment. We serve patients from North Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Tequesta, Jupiter, and beyond.
